Port of Calais

Due to the port extensions in the port of Calais, a breakwater of approximately 3 km is built by the combination, Bouygues-Jan de Nul.

In close cooperation with Bouygues, Jan de Nul and other involved engineering companies, the core material design has been adapted to the application of Widegrade®. The stability of this Widegrade® under heavy seas when being attacked by waves has been extensively tested by Bontrup in a physical scale model in which it has been demonstrated that the construction can more than live up to the requirements.

Subsequently, an offshore board-to-board handling operation was chosen in which the stone was loaded directly from the bulk carrier onto Jan de Nul’s floating equipment, which then places it directly into the water.

In addition to the core material, other stone products such as quarry stone are delivered in various grades. All this work is carried out in close cooperation with the engineers involved.
